Headaches are a very common problem. People of all ages get headaches from time to time. They can cause unbearable pain along with nausea and, at times, vomiting.
Common causes of headaches include stress, tension, restlessness, sinus problems, migraines, lack of sleep and dehydration.
A migraine is much more than your typical headache. It can cause extreme pain, nausea and vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound. The throbbing pain can quickly ruin your day and interfere with your life.
But you don’t have to sit back and wait for a migraine to end. As long as you know how to deal with it, you can tackle it from all sides and get back to your daily life.
Natural remedies for headaches may take a bit more thought than simply popping a pill, but don’t brush them off. They won’t wreak havoc on your body like other over-the-counter or prescription pain-killers do, and you’re less likely to become so dependent on them that you need them for every little ache.
Take note of these simple steps, and you’ll be prepared the next time a migraine strikes.
Instead of popping a pill when you get a headache, toss back some almonds. For everyday tension-type headaches, almonds can be a natural remedy and a healthier alternative to other medicine. It acts as a pain reliever because it contains something called salicin, which is also an agent in popular over the counter killers. Try eating a handful or two of these wholesome nuts when you feel the ache start to set in.

Another option is to fill a tub with bearable hot water and put your hands in it for 10 to 15 minutes. This will improve blood circulation and thus give you relief from the headache.
If you suffer from chronic headaches, you can dip your legs in a bucket filled with hot water for 10 minutes before going to bed.
Find some feverfew
Headaches, particularly migraines, can be relieved through the use of the feverfew plant. When a migraine is in the works your blood vessels are changing, and theories suggest that the vessels in your head are expanding and pressing on nerves. Feverfew has been confirmed to relax the tension/constrict blood vessels, easing the painful pressure. It also reduces inflammation and pain overall with a substance called parthenolide, which has results similar to taking a daily aspirin, but without the side effects.

-1 ounce fresh or dried flowers
-1 pint of boiling water
Add 1 ounce of fresh or dried feverfew flowers to 1 pint of boiling one. Steep for 10 minutes, and then strain. Drink half a cup twice a day as needed.
If the cause of your headache is dehydration, you can easily get relief from the pain by rehydrating your body.
Simply drink a glass of water at the first sign of a headache and continue taking small sips throughout the day.
Along with water, you can have sports drinks. The electrolytes present in sports drinks can treat headaches caused by tension and dehydration.
When suffering from a headache, stay away from drinks like alcohol that can dehydrate your body.
Both apples and apple cider vinegar can be used to fight off a headache. They help restore the acid-alkaline balance in the body. Furthermore, simply the smell of green apples can help reduce migraine headaches.
When you wake up in the morning with a headache, eat a piece of apple sprinkled with some salt. Then drink some warm water.
Alternatively, fill a large bowl with steaming hot water and add 3 to 4 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to it. Hold a towel over your head and take in the steam for 10 to 15 minutes.
Another option is to add 2 teaspoons of some apple cider vinegar to a glass of water. You can also add a little honey and lemon juice. Drink it 2 or 3 times a day.
Lemon is a very effective and powerful ingredient to treat headache because it is refreshing and relaxing. Plus, it helps maintain the acid-alkaline balance in the body.
Drinking warm water mixed with juice squeezed from one-half of a lemon will reduce the intensity of a headache. This particular remedy is beneficial for headaches caused by gas in the stomach.
Another option is to apply lemon crusts, pounded into a paste, on your forehead to immediately relieve pain.
To reiterate the case in point, lack of sleep can trigger an attack. People diagnosed with migraines should ensure eight hours of sleep and regular sleeping patterns. This may include getting to bed at the same time every night and taking a warm water bath or relaxing with family before bedtime.
Naps would well need to be limited to a max of 30 minutes. When day naps are taken, the probability of sleeping better at night is lower and the probability of triggering an attack is higher.
Walk for health
Studies have shown that migraine headaches respond favorably to walks. Taking a leisurely walk can help control the symptoms provided that these walks are initiated early.
The peppermint release
A drop or two of peppermint oil rubbed into the temples could well lead to a quick relief. When complemented with a peppermint tea and flavored with honey for taste, the mix could well return encouraging results.
Peppermint is a strong anti–inflammatory drug which can soothe irritated nerve endings. Conversely, if the cause is spasmodic, peppermint is even more effective considering that it is a strong anti – spasmodic ingredient.
