Finally FDA admits chicken meat contains cancer-causing arsenic

It is shocking, but the FDA made this confession at long last: Chicken meat sold in the US does contain arsenic, a cancer-causing agent which is let halin high dosages. And the fact that the poisonous chemical is added to the chicken feed deliberately is even more shocking!

Arsenic is an element that is present in the environment as a naturally-occurring substance or as a result of contamination from human activity. It is found in water, air, and soil in organic and inorganic forms.

Arsenic – cancer-causing toxic chemical in high doses could kill you, is actually being added to chicken feed on purpose, giving store-bought chicken the illusion of healthy coloring and plump appearance.

The inorganic form is more harmful than the organic form, and has been found to be a human carcinogen. Organic arsenic is not known to be carcinogenic. Organic arsenic is the form of arsenic that is the active ingredient in approved arsenic-based animal drugs, including 3- Nitro® (Roxarsone).

The arsenic added to the chicken feed ends up in the chicken meat where it is consumed by humans. So for the last sixty years, American consumers who eat conventional chicken have been swallowing arsenic, a known cancer-causing chemical.

The Food and Drug Administration says some chicken meat may contain small amounts of arsenic, though the agency is stressing that the amount is too tiny to be dangerous to people who eat it.

The FDA said that a new study by the agency shows that an ingredient in chicken feed that contains arsenic, called Roxarsone, may make its way into parts of the bird that are eaten. Previous studies have indicated the arsenic was eliminated with chicken waste.

Pfizer, which makes the feed ingredient, said that it will pull it off the market in the United States.

Many poultry producers have already stopped feeding their birds the ingredient, which was used to kill parasites and promote growth.

The FDA said people do not need to stop eating chicken that may have been treated with the drug. Michael Taylor, FDA’s deputy commissioner for foods, says the study raised “concerns of a very low but completely avoidable exposure to a carcinogen.”

Pfizer said in a statement that its subsidiary, Alpharma, is suspending sales in response to the FDA findings.

The National Chicken Council, which represents companies that produce and process chickens, said in a statement that the ingredient has been used to maintain good health in chickens for many years, and that it is used in “many, but not all” flocks.

“Chicken is safe to eat,” the group said.

Of course, the production industry does not want the world to know the truth about arsenic and its toxic effects on human health. Arsenic, together with mercury and lead, has extremely toxic effect on fetuses and children, according to to the University of South Carolina Department of Environmental Health Services.

Furthermore, experts claim that arsenic has 4 times more poisonous effects than mercury. For instance, Arsenic As+3 is 60 times as toxic as the pentavalent As +5.

According to a study published in The Journal of the American Medical Association, individuals who consume large amounts of rice which contains arsenic, experience change in the cells which leads to cancer development.

When ingested, arsenic causes Bowen disease (squamous cell carcinoma in situ); invasive squamous cell carcinoma; basal cell carcinoma on the skin; and sometimes even cancers of theinternal organs, including lungs, kidneys, bladder, and liver, according to the most recent reports.

Unfortunately, FDA still claims that food which contains arsenic is safe to eat, but drinking elderberry juice is dangerous- ironic, isn`t it?
